Trip Report

A nice stretch of February weather had me excited to get out. I had done some easy hikes the previous 2 days close to Boise and wanted another. Tom and Mark were interested, so we headed out to the Danskin range to get in a quick hike to the top of Station Peak (Peak 5096 on the Arrowrock topo).

We started the hike just north of Blacks Creek Summit, where Woodtick Creek meets Blacks Creek Road. There is an old road here that heads north out of Woodtick Creek and up onto the ridge that contains Station Peak. We followed this road to near the peak, then did a short cross-country route to the peak.

It was another beautiful, sunny day. Tom hiked in shorts and a t-shirt. We had some intriguing conversation as we leisurely hiked to the top of the peak. After some pictures and sight-seeing on the top, we all kind of thought 'what know?'. The day was young and we hadn't hiked much.

Mark had spied some building foundations just below the peak to the northeast. Let's go check those out was the group decision, with the idea being to drop down to the old buildings, check the area out, then descend to Blacks Creek Road via Station Creek and walk the road back the cars from there.

It was an excellent idea and we thoroughly inspected the foundations, old piping, stairs, walking paths, etc. Not sure what was once there, but it was pretty substantial for this remote area. The views of the Trinities from these buildings was impressive!

Whomever decommissioned these buildings did a good job removing all fixtures and wood, as we found only 2 or 3 small pieces of evidence.

We then bush whacked down Station Creek until we found a game trail that got us to the road.

Very short, but fun day out with a couple of guys that made it a fun day. In addition to a fun day, finishing this peak allowed me to complete all of the 300 foot plus peaks on the Arrowrock quad (there are a total of 7).

Getting There

Drive Blacks Creek Road to Blacks Creek Summit. Drop off the summit for .5 miles and park where the topo map shows Woodtick Creek meeting Blacks Creek Road.
