Dickey Peak - 11,141 feet

The view of Dickey Peak from the west. Got to love those smooth looking slopes.

Trip Report (August 23rd, 2001):

Here is my trip report for Dickey Peak, the highest peak in Idaho's Pahsimeroi mountains.

Dickey Peak is an awesome climb. From the top you have a commanding view of Mount Borah's northface. The view of the Pahsimeroi heading north are spectacular as well. To your east, you are able to pick out Devils Bedstead and Castle Peak. I enjoyed this climb, despite the fact that 75% of the route is on steep and loose talus, which makes progress to the top hard. Going down is easy!

Trip stats:
Time: 6 hours (4.5 up, 1.5 down)
Length: 6 miles
Elevation Gain: 4,000 feet
Class (difficulty): 2

Drive: From Arco drive approximatley 50 miles north on US 93. Turn right (east) on Arteson Gulch road. Follow the road for about a mile, then turn left (north). Follow the road north for about a mile and look for an ill-defined road heading east through the prairie. Follow this primitive, but smooth, road for about a mile to a water trough in a gulch at the base of Dickey Peak.

Climb: Pick a ridge on the western side of the mountain and go for it! We hiked from a water tank in a gully west across grassy hills to a gully. We then hiked up the gully until it got steep, then moved out onto the middle western ridge. We followed that ridge to the point around 10,600 where Dickey's summit comes into view. From there, traverse the ridge to the top of Dickey.
